    Prude for Nude
Yesterday I read in ArtNews that "News & Observer" posted a warning on its front page that an article inside contained nudity. The article featured "Creation of Adam" piece from the famous Michelangelo painting in the Sistine Chapel.
The reaction: 1 person was still complaining about "nudity", 2 were actually complaining about warning being too condescending to the readers.
This "pseudo puritanism" drives me crazy. Popes in Vatican never complained about Sistine Chapel fresco for 500 years, but I guess we found new experts on what's "appropriate".

Disturbance, an evening-length dance theatre piece, is luscious and demanding, unveiling a landscape in transformation. The choreography embodies the nature of the influences that motivates individuals to alter. The disturbances, both positive and negative, by force or by choice, disrupt the self and cause personal change. Like the movement, the moving scenic design, by Alicia Wargo, carves out an environmental representation of the internal; the dancers maneuver physical elements seamlessly within the choreography and in so doing, repeatedly re-assemble their personal identity. The piece moves from simplicity to comedy and juxtaposes pedestrian motion, virtuosic shape, twitches, subtle gestures, and shifting groupings of dancers.

Stapler "Easy" button or why people buy useless things?
When I receive those junk mail catalogs, I always wonder "Who buys this sh... stuff"? There so many useless things, like banana hangers or kandy unwrapper.
But when I actually see smart people buy that stuff I start to understand why those products are produced.
My manager, very sharp female just brought to work big red Stapler's "EASY" button. You click on it, and it says "That is easy". I understand that she bought it as a "conversational" peace, a joke, but still...
When I talked to her about this, she told me a story about a guy who sold "nothing" on Internet, and it was bought by some other guy for $87. I always thought that demand calls for supply, but maybe all those economists were wrong, they didn't take human psychology/impulsiveness into account:-)

    playboy puzzle
After going to "Victoria Secrets" store today, came up with an idea( probably it's not original, but I didn't see it before).
Why not place "Centerfold" in a form of the puzzle in Playboy instead of regular poster. I'm sure excitement and anticipation of reassembling puzzle back together would work better miracles than Viagra:-)

"Looted" art controversy. To return or not to return?
In the last few years art world is heated by "requests" from different countries to return "looted" art to it's home. Metropolitan museum has returned about 300 Egyptian objects it determined were stolen to Egypt. Recently, Italy and Met reached an agreement in which Met will return several important objects to Italy, including Terracotta calyx-krater

http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/director/1972.11.10.R.asp, which is on-loan to Met until 2007. This move actually increased attention to museum's collection of Ancient Roman art. People who are not real museum goers line up to see krater before it goes to Italy.
Of course not all museums are as "forward" about returning objects that are "claimed" to country of origin. Getty is the most infamous in housing looted treasures.
On the other hand, some "representatives" of claimant countries also behave irrationally. The perfect example is Zahi Hawass, the head of Egypt’s antiquities council, who is known to be very knowledgeable in his area of expertise, excellent speaker and educator but very fierce and harsh to people who might disagree with him. Top items on Hawass’s list of national icons to be returned to the "motherland" are Nefertiti bust in Berlin and the Rosetta stone (ca. 200 b.c.) in the British Museum in London!!!
    http://www.artnews.com/currentarticle.cfm?art_id=2039
I'm really wondering how things will progress with this claim.

So, should museums return questionable objects or should they stay where they are if museums spent a lot of money and research on discovering these objects and these objects, like Rosetta stone, became "trademark" of the museum?

"Specialization" in all ages in all spheres.
    Call to tech support:
-hello, my application is not working!
    a couple of questions/answers later
-it's probably Networking problem, let me transfer you to Networking Dept.
10 min later after another Q&A session
-let me transfer you to DBAs
    10 more min later
    - it might be hardware problem, hold on...

This scenario seems very familiar, right? Well, how about this one:

    Artists workshop, Antwerp 17 century.
-Hey Antony(van Dyck), I need you to paint this portrait on the wall in my painting.
    -No problem, Peter (Paul Rubens).
-Hey Frans(Snyders), I need you to paint dogs under the table and pheasants on the table.
    - Sure thing, Peter!
-Nicolaes(van Veerendael), do me a favor and do the flowers in a vase after Frans is finished with pheasants.
This conversation might seem highly unlikely, but in fact "specialization" was very common during Flemish Baroque.
Examples of the collaborative picture effort can be seen in such famous painting in Dresden Gallery as
Ruben's "Diana's Return from hunt", where fruits and animals where painted by fellow artist Frans Snyder and on Snyders' "Still-life with Bitch and litter, and two Cooks" Rubens did figures of cooks.
Another amazing example of "team effort" is "In front of Kitchen", where Nicolaes Veerendael did flowers, David Teniers the Younger completed kitchen scene and Carstian Luyckx painted still life with dead birds, fish and a cat. It's signed by all three. In this case a collector could have "highlights" of 3 masters on a single painting.

    Chocolate quest continues
I'm really bored in Downtown, so decided to continue my "chocolate quest". Went to "Godiva". I have been buying chocolate several times in Godiva before, but boxed one. Today, I decided for the sake of experiment to try to buy single pieces. They are supposed to be better:-) I bought 3 small candies, paid $5.71!!! They didn't have a big variety at this time. The theme right now is Easter, so there was a lot of milk chocolate eggs. So I bought 3 different kinds of truffles. One was really good. 2 - were OK (I'm not of big fan of fruit filling in a chocolate). Was it better that "Leonidas"? Yes! Was it worth $5? NO! My next stop is "La Maison Du Chocolate" which was suggested by a_lazy_legend. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I guess now I have something to amuse myself during lunch time, plus it's not wasting money on expensive chocolate anymore, it's a gourmet research. Please do not tell my husband:-)

Belgian Chocolat - very different in Belgia
I'm a chocoholic. My friend introduced me to "Leonidas" today. Very fancy, very pricey, very saliva drooping kind of store selling Belgian chocolate. I spent a little over $3 on 5 small candies(all different kinds). Well, in Brussels chocolate tastes very different. In Brussels I spent about $20 on large bag of assorted candies that you buy by pound and after each one of those candies I had Meg Ryan's "When Harry met Sally" "restaurant" moment and I'm relatively reserved person. I had entirely different reaction after eating "Leonidas" candies. They were as different from those "original" ones as Belgian waffles covered with chocolate, caramel, nuts and fruits that they sell in Brussels on every corner from those "Belgian waffles" that you buy in US supermarkets in frozen food section.
Now I wonder how sushi taste in Japan or maybe I just picked 5 wrong candies?
